Chapter 25 – Kalliope
I wake to total darkness. Where am I? What happened?
Then I remember; they took me.
My body feels sluggish, languid, too heavy. Was I drugged? Given something to make me sleep until the man could put me where he wants me?
Remembering the putrid stink mixed with the aged leather, I sniff tentatively. This time I smell smoke through the blackness. I can make out the faintest noise of voices in the distance, though they are too far away to make out their words. I shiver, not because of the cold, but because I know what happened.
The man in the forest took me.
