It has come to my attention that sometimes, in the world of blogging, bloggers often times will post original content on a semi-regular basis that –now, stay with me here– is not simply a chapter of a book they have already written. WOW. Semi-regular content? Meaning regularly, and not only when they happen to remember that they have a blog? And they think it up from their own brains using their own imaginations? What a time to be alive!
Anyway, here are the top 10 things that I’ve been up to lately:
No, not for me. For Natalie! Baby Walker is officially due in like, an hour, so I threw her a shower where we could eat delicious food and cupcakes in the name of all things baby. But I forgot to take pictures of anything other than the food (#priorities), so I can only show you those:
Spring (Winter?) Cleaning
I know that some people clean their homes regularly (not unlike those who blog regularly), but I won’t lie to you, I struggle there. Usually I clean my house if –and only if– company is coming, and don’t even get me started on purging old/outdated items. But last week I did just that – went through my closet and got rid of all the things I can’t fit into anymore I have emotionally outgrown.
Well friends, it’s happened. I finally got my big girl panties on and am reading a novel by Mr. Stephen King. Sure, it’s only a thriller as opposed to one of his horror novels, but so far Mr. Mercedes is pleeeeeeeenty frightening enough for wimpy old me, thanks. Have you read it? Does it get scarier? Should I stop reading and return to my beloved, non-horrifying YA?
Speaking of Books…
My current book is with beta readers and I AM SO HAPPY. If you’re unfamiliar with the publishing process, beta readers are helpful friends and family who you coerce/bribe/threaten/otherwise convince to read your revised novel draft and offer critiques. And if you’re unfamiliar with what my current book is about, it’s about this:
As the daughter of the Sovereign reigning over a massive intergalactic Viking space empire, 16-year-old Ingrid “Thistle” Angsar III should have the perfect life. But when her predetermined future starts to catch up with her and threatens to derail her dream of becoming an intergalactically-renowned chef, it seems anything but.
Enrolled against her will in the prestigious Intergalactic Academy for Emerging Leaders, Thistle must learn the ins and outs of leadership and authority…which is easier said than done. For starters, her professor thinks she can’t handle the job. Additionally, the power-hungry son of her family’s arch nemeses won’t stop harassing her. And finally, how is she supposed to perfect a nice béarnaise with her mother breathing down her neck all the time?
Her family’s place in history is at risk, and Thistle must decide what matters more: her dreams, or her family’s honor. But when hostile extraterrestrial foes kidnap her parents and threaten to annihilate the empire, it’s up to Thistle to save the future of Viking-kind as they know it.
I got a perm! My hair’s so now (name that movie).
Delicious Greek Salad
This weekend I made Greek food and it was amazing. To be specific, I made these kabobs/tzaziki, and made up what turned out to be a delicious chopped veggie salad. Here is the recipe:
- ½ red onion, chopped
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 1 cucumber, chopped
- 1 cup kalamata olives, halved
- 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- feta crumbles to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
- dried oregano/garlic powder to taste
Mix it all up, refrigerate for an hour and don’t share with anyone. It’s that good.
I’m only about 20 years too late to this party, but it turns out the original show from the 90s is crazy good.
I’m trying to do it. I’m really, really trying. It’s miserable and I hate it, but I really would like to not have to give away any more clothes because I have emotionally outgrown them.
New Work Schedule
In DFW, navigating rush hour traffic is akin to sludging through molasses uphill in the Northeastern winter. Read, it’s miserable and not entirely productive. Now I’m working 7 am – 4 pm and traffic is way less offensive. I am also significantly more caffeinated.
