So What’s New With You?

Hmmm? What’s that? You don’t recognize me anymore due to my sporadic-at-best (read: completely absent) blog posting schedule lately? Well, I apologize. Hopefully I’m going to become a better blogger in the near to immediate future and actually post content regularly. A lot has changed lately. For starters, I now look like this:

I’m sure you’re all absolutely ~dying~ to know what I’ve been up to, so all right. Fine. I’ll tell you. You’re welcome.

(You got that that was sarcastic, right? It’s been so long I barely even know how to sarcasm anymore. Brb, seeking remedial sass classes.)


I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I am not a naturally athletic human. I’ve tried soccer, volleyball, swimming, running… you name it, I’ve failed at it. It’s just not my area of talent. But lately I’ve been attending a neighborhood Zumba class twice a week, and did you guys know that Zumba is actually really, really fun? I’m obsessed. So much so that I wish the class was offered every day. It’s fast-paced and energetic and some of the moves are so sexy I feel like I could accidentally get pregnant in there. Have you ever tried Zumba? Did you like it?


I’ve cooked a lot of new recipes lately, including these garlic-Parmesan baked chicken strips, this low country boil, this Asian-inspired salad and these firecracker shrimp quesadillas. I also made my beloved Parmesan risotto for family recently, and due to some unfortunate series of events, reeked of onions the entire next day at work. Like, noticeably. After I’d showered. And even used soap. You can read more about that …special… day here. I’ve also been really into falafel lately – but only dipped in taziki, I don’t care much for tahini with it. What have you cooked lately that you’ve loved?

Finished reading MORNING STAR, the third book in my boyfriend Pierce Brown’s epic Red Rising trilogy. Holy. Wow. Y’all need to run –not walk– to the bookstore and buy this baby if you haven’t already read it. It’s twisty and turny and topsy and turvy and full of adventure, intrigue, betrayal, revenge and love. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Also currently reading John Irving for the first time… Have you read him? Did you like him? I’m struggling. Next up in my queue are LOSING THE LIGHT by Andrea Dunlop, OF SCARS AND STARDUST by Andrea Hannah, and DRUMS OF AUTUMN, the fourth Outlander book by Diana Gabaldon.

For starters, my first book, ON MOUNTAIN HIGH, is fully loaded on this site! You can read the whole thing, chapter by chapter, simply by clicking that handy dandy link in the nav menu that says “On Mountain High.” Do it, it’s fun. You’ll like it.


I haven’t talked as much about my current manuscript as I did the last, for a variety of reasons. The main reason is simply that I’m so busy writing and revising it, that I don’t have a lot of energy left to write about it. The other reasons are a jumbled mixture of laziness, fear of failure and consequent embarrassment, and an inexplicable desire to keep it private (at least for now). But I will say that I am currently querying my second complete manuscript, INTERGALACTIC THISTLE. Or in normal human terms, I’m pitching it to literary agents in hopes of securing representation. Here’s what the story’s about:

As the daughter of the Sovereign who reigns over a massive intergalactic Viking space empire, 16-year-old Ingrid “Thistle” Angsar III should have the perfect life. But when her predetermined future starts to catch up with her and threatens to derail her dream of becoming an intergalactically-renowned chef, it seems anything but.

Enrolled against her will in the prestigious Intergalactic Academy for Emerging Leaders, Thistle must learn the ins and outs of leadership… which is much easier said than done. For starters, her professor thinks she can’t handle the job. Additionally, the power-hungry son of her family’s arch nemeses won’t stop harassing her. And the most annoying of all: how is she supposed to perfect a lovely béarnaise with her control-freak mother breathing down her neck all the time?!

Her family’s place in history is at stake, and Thistle must decide what’s more important: her dreams, or her family’s honor. But when hostile extraterrestrial foes kidnap her parents and threaten to annihilate the empire, it’s up to Thistle to save the future of Viking-kind as they know it.


It’s no secret I’m obsessed with Outlander, and the show is no different. The current season (#2) is following the second book so far, and while the French political drama of book 2 wasn’t my favorite, the costumes are beautiful and so is Sam Heughan. Unfortunately I’m going to have to find a new way to watch my beloved Outlander (and Real Housewives, and The Bachelor, and River Monsters, and Veep, and Modern Family, and Game of Thrones) because my husband is forcing us to cut our cable contract in favor of an Amazon Prime/Netflix/Sling TV combo. I don’t mean to be dramatic, but Andrew is basically ruining my life.

    I feel like Andy would have a lot of questions if you accidentally got pregnant at Zumba… All of those recipes sounds so good, I need to pin them!
