Mother’s Day is really a lot of pressure in my mind. I mean, what do you get the person that raised you? How do you even begin to show your gratitude? How do you say “Hey, thanks a bunch for giving birth to me and catering to my every need and want for all these 25 years, I sure do appreciate it.”
I should write for Hallmark.
What do you do when nothing is good enough for your very favorite person ever?*
Chocolate. Chocolate-covered strawberries, to be exact.
Here’s the stuff you need:
Chocolate chips (I used white chocolate because I wanted the milk chocolate sprinkles to stand out and as we know, looks are all that really matter in this world)
Milk chocolate sprinkles
One dash of vanilla extract
Wine (this actually has nothing to do with the strawberries)
Here’s what you should do:
Melt your chocolate. I used a makeshift double boiler because I fully believe I can do anything I see Ina Garten do on TV and I’m too cheap to buy a real one. Simmer some water in a sauce pan, then place a glass bowl on top. Be careful not to let the water boil up and touch the bottom of the glass bowl – I’m not sure why, but Ina said it so I was extra careful not to let it happen.
While you wait for the chocolate to melt, you have a little down time. Pour yourself some vino and shamelessly snap selfies in your kitchen. You deserve it.
Right before the chocolate reaches its ultimate melting point, add in your dash of vanilla extract. It gives the chocolate a fuller flavor. Or something.
Keep stirring the chocolate, and definitely take more selfies.
YOUR CHOCOLATE IS MELTED, LET THE HEAVENS REJOICE. I know it will be difficult but really try to resist the urge to drink the melted chocolate through a straw, because then you will just have plain strawberries left and that’s way too close to health food to be worth anyone’s time (I’m looking at you, Juliette).
Dip, sprinkle, repeat. It’s that easy, folks.
You know, my favorite part of cooking is doing it for other people. I love to see the excitement on their faces, the anticipation, that little sparkle in their eye.
Wait. I just described myself when the wine comes out to party. Oops.
