I Dream of a Custom KitchenAid Mixer

Sometimes in the wonderful world of blogging, exciting opportunities come your way. Sponsorship opportunities, guest posting opportunities, opportunities to write a post for a chance to win a beautiful and totally drool-worthy custom KitchenAid Mixer…

mixers

That’s the flavor of the day. PartSelect is giving away three gorgeous custom KitchenAid Mixers to three lucky bloggers, so everyone comment and help convince them that I’m worthy. If I win one you’re all invited over for cookies and my attempt at the meal below. Dear baby Jesus and God in Heaven please protect us and help me not burn the house down.
Amen.

If you know me at all, you know I love few things more than drinking wine watching Food Network and pretending to be Ina Garten. So today I’m daydreaming of using my hypothetical new KitchenAid Mixer and all its fancy attachments to whip up Irish soda bread, pastitsio and a decadent chocolate buttercream cake. Top off your glass and gather ‘round, friends.

First things first: Ina Garten’s Irish Soda Bread

You mean to tell me that people actually make bread…from scratch…at home? I thought magical bread fairies just dropped it off each day at the grocery store (similar to the whole baby/stork thing, but a much less permanent commitment). Soooo, I guess we’ll get started. Okay flour, sugar, baking soda, all the usual suspects. Currants? Like, current events? [That’s a horrible joke, Self, don’t write that.] Okay, next up: the electric mixer paddle attachment. Woahhhh there KitchenAid we just met. That’s a whole lot of kinkiness so early on, but… I guess if you want to.

Next up: Ina Garten’s Pastitsio

Ummm hello Ina, this entrée is in Greek and this is Texas, I speak Spanish at a pre-school level at best. How do I Greek, you guys? The directions lead me to believe that this is in fact some sort of Greek lasagna, and I should probably put my big girl panties on and whip up homemade pasta noodles with my handy dandy KitchenAid Mixer’s pasta attachment. Hey Andypants, let’s get the fire department on standby, kay?

The grand finale: Ina Garten’s Tiered Chocolate Buttercream Cake

chocolate cake (35)

Holy divine cake of the gods get in my belly. Now, I know for a fact that this is freaking complicated a challenging kitchen adventure, especially for those of us not gifted in the baking area. I’ve seen the episode where Mrs. Garten baked this cake, and first she was all “watch me accomplish these other-worldly feats of unparalleled kitchen prowess with my dazzling white KitchenAid Mixer” and then the next second she was all, “How easy is that?” IT’S NOT THAT EASY INA, YOU’RE LYING. But I’m dying for a piece of that cake, so I’ll allow it.

Word to the wise: when she says “at room temperature,” girlfriend’s not messing around. Leave those eggs out overnight if you have to; nobody wants scrambled egg parts in their chocolate cake.

So there you have it. That is the Ina Garten-inspired meal I would attempt to prepare with my new custom KitchenAid Mixer from PartSelect. Remember to tip your waitress, and don’t forget that a bottle of pinot grigio admits one for dinner. See you tonight!

  • Ooo I just made soda bread for the first time last March and it was so good! Super easy too which surprised my “I hate cooking” self. Also drool…my lack of a kitchen in the city is really a downer :(

Really? Okay, I’m much less intimidated now. You don’t have a kitchen?!?!

I tell my oh so lucky fiance that I am only marrying him so I can register for a kitchen aid mixer and pray that someone spends a bajillion dollars on it for me. Clearly….thats not true…I mean not completely true. Anywho, I have my fingers crossed for you! Even if you cant bake, it at least makes your kitchen look like you are an awesome baker- and thats half the battle. :)

I told Andy I was only in it for the Le Creuset Dutch Oven. I’m so glad someone else understands these things. By the way congratulations!!!! You’ll love being married. It’s [mostly] a good time. ;)

You HAVE to win the mixer because I HAVE to come over and eat the delicious food you make and that’s all there is to it.

I agree completely. Except let’s get to the bottom of that Greek lasagne business first.

Your posts are hilarious! And you remind me of myself trying to cook! By the way, I don’t cook. At all. I just recently learned how to boil an egg. Making bread? You go girlfriend! Win that mixer!

Thank you so much! And hey, boiling an egg is hard work. You probably deserve some wine after all that stress. Cheers to our kitchen skills!

  • I love my kitchenaid mixer… but if you win, you have to send me some of that cake. Deal?
